The year 2015 has been really exciting ; perhaps the best since the evolution of smartphones.
This year , we have witnessed the slow death of "Plastic" smartphones and the rise of "Metal" and "Kevlar" devices. We have also witnessed the rise of smartphones that can replace your DSLR camera by shooting 4K videos.

Before we pop that champagne and usher in the new year , let us take a look at the mobile trends and events to watch out for , as well as the top smartphones to expect in 2016.

Top Smartphones To Watch Out For In 2016

Samsung Galaxy S7 : Samsung is under immense pressure to get it right with the Galaxy S7. The company is facing serious competition in the mobile market , and could see its market share decline if the Galaxy S7 fails to impress.

There are strong reports that Samsung Galaxy S7 will come with 3D Touch ; the unique feature on iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Our Sources say that Galaxy S7 will use the “Clear Force” Technology developed by Synaptics. Force Touch technology requires core software implementations and we’re not sure how Samsung plans to handle that.

GsmArena is also reporting that Galaxy S7 will come in three different sizes. 5.1' , 5.5' and 6 inches.

The Galaxy S7 looks exciting , and we just can't wait for it!

iPhone 7 : Th iPhone 7 has been in the news lately , and from the rumors floating around , it looks like the next iPhone will come with a massive design overhaul.

Details of the internal hardware is largely unknown , but If Mac Rumors are anything to go by , the iPhone 7 would feature a much more slimmer design , 2GB RAM and 4.7 inch screen , while iPhone 7 Plus may ship with 3GB RAM and 5.5inch display.

Other sources have revealed that the iPhone 7 may include a strengthened, waterproof frame that ditches Apple's traditional aluminum casing for an all new material and does away with the prominent rear antenna bands on the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 6s Plus.

LG G5 : According to our source , LG G5 is going to be the best smartphone the company has ever made. The G5 is said to feature an all metal design with 5.3 inch display and a "secondary ticker screen" right untop of the main display ; just like that of The V10.

The phone is expected to use the new and powerful Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 processor , as well as the latest Android Version ; Android 6.0 Marshmallow. For storage , the G5 will reportedly come with 64GB internal memory and SD card slot up to 200GB ; as well as 4GB RAM for temporary storage of information.

Tecno Phantom 6 : Tecno's 2015 Flagship Smartphone , Phantom 5 was heavily criticized for its aggressive price tag. The smartphone has a lot of potentials , but failed to capture the hearts of Nigerians.

There's currently no details of the next Phantom from Tecno Mobile , but we're expecting an all round improvement in specs and price. Hopefully , we will get 4GB RAM , Android Marshmallow and 20MP Camera on the Phantom 6.

Tecno has a lot of work to do in 2016. There's a big mountain to climb , especially if they're serious about launching premium devices. Finding the right balance between specs and price will be key , considering the fact that a large chunk of their fanbase are people with low / average purchasing power.

All eyes will be on Tecno Mobile and their 2016 flagship smartphone ; Phantom 6.
